Dr. Hummel earned his medical degree at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia. He completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowships in cardiovascular medicine and cardiac electrophysiology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. In addition, Dr. Hummel completed a visiting fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan where he also served as an assistant professor of medicine.

He has published a number of abstracts and peer-reviewed journal articles, as well as a textbook in electrophysiology. Dr. Hummel frequently speaks to national and international audiences on various topics in the field of cardiovascular electrophysiology.
